"I came across poetry, art, philosophy, music and different ways to express myself without using long essay paragraphs or vulgarity, just a few well put together words with grand meaning." - Johnny Calix
The story of Calix begins with roots that span continents and cultures. Born to a Honduran father who immigrated to Chicago at age 17 and a Chicago-born mother of Puerto Rican and Cuban descent, Johnny Calix inherited a rich cultural tapestry that would later influence his artistic expression.
At 17, Johnny relocated to Orlando, Florida, where he graduated from Cypress Creek High School in 2007. During this pivotal time, he welcomed his son Jonathan into the world, becoming a father at just 18 years old. Three years later, his daughter Jenise was born, further transforming his perspective on life and art.
These profound life experiences opened new avenues of creative expression. Johnny discovered the power of poetry, philosophy, and music as vehicles for conveying complex emotions and ideas. He found that well-crafted words could carry grand meaning without requiring lengthy explanations or resorting to vulgarity.
For over a decade, Johnny has honed his craft, creating a distinctive collection of music and artistic visions. What began as personal expression has evolved into Calix the Company—a platform for sharing these creations with those who seek authentic artistic connection.
Calix represents more than music; it's the embodiment of how multicultural heritage, parenthood, and life's challenges can transform into art that speaks to universal human experiences. Through Calix, Johnny continues to build a legacy that honors his roots while constantly pushing toward new creative horizons.
